"That's a good team we ran into, it really is," From Mount Si Head Coach Darren Brown. "We just wanted to get to that next stage and we came up short, but I'm really proud of these boys and the season we had. We've got to tell these boys, 'Hold your heads up high,' because they did a lot of great things this year."

“This is a phenomenal atmosphere and that was a quality team,” Glacier Peak coach Shannon Murray said of Mount Si and its crowd.

Glacier Peak blanks Mount Si, 2-0 | Prep boys soccer

Jackson Miller and Gregor Troost scored 67 minutes apart as Glacier Peak beat Mount Si 2-0 in a Class 3A boys soccer quarterfinal game.

By Mason Kelley - Seattle Times staff reporter

SNOQUALMIE — With about four minutes left in the first half, Gregor Troost jogged past Glacier Peak coach Shannon Murray, who asked, "You having fun yet?" Troost just smiled and took off down the field. The junior midfielder went on to show Murray just how much he was enjoying the moment when he collected a deflected shot and drove home a goal in the 77th minute, helping the Grizzlies beat Mount Si 2-0 in the Class 3A state quarterfinals Friday night. "When I'm having fun, I play better than when I get mad and get down," Troost said.

The same can be said for his Grizzlies teammates. They played loose and confident soccer, advancing to the semifinals in the school's first trip to the state playoffs. In the semifinals next Friday, they will play the winner of Saturday's matchup between Capital and West Valley (Yakima).

Glacier Peak moves on to the 3A state soccer semifinals with victory

The Grizzlies shut out Mount Si 2-0 for second consecutive road win

SNOQUALMIE — The Glacier Peak boys soccer team is sporting Mohawk haircuts in this postseason as a statement of team spirit and unity. The Grizzlies are making a statement on the field as well.

Glacier Peak won its second straight road playoff game on Friday night, blanking Mount Si 2-0 in a quarterfinal contest before a large, noisy group of Wildcats fans.

The Grizzlies used an early first half goal from senior forward Jackson Miller, a late second half goal by junior midfielder Gregor Troost, and the flawless play of junior goalkeeper Andrew Weakly to advance to the Class 3A state semifinals.

“This is a phenomenal atmosphere and that was a quality team,” Glacier Peak coach Shannon Murray said of Mount Si and its crowd. “So for us to come in and get an early goal, and then defend well and counter in the second half, and then get our second goal, I couldn’t be more ecstatic about what we did.”

Mount Si High Wildcats get lots of grassroots soccer coverage in North Bend

May 15, 6:39 AMSeattle Soccer ExaminerDavid Falk

Plenty of high school soccer teams plug away in relative obscurity, before a handful of parents and friends, never getting much mention in the press or on the Internet. That's not the case for the Mount Si High School Wildcats (North Bend, WA), who draw large, noisy crowds, are covered well in the local paper, and have supporters who take photos and upload their video highlights to YouTube. Their Facebook page has nearly 300 friends.

The Wildcats are the KingCo 3A Champions for 2010, and await their first opponent in state play. The Seattle Times recently ranked Mount Si 5th in state. (read more)

Your preview and pick for tonight's WIAA 3A boys soccer second round game between Mount Si and Glacier Peak

By: Rhett Workman - Sno-Valley Sports - May 21, 2010

Mount Si's boys' soccer program is now in uncharted territory, having advanced to the second round of the state tournament after their win Tuesday. Tonight, they host a very good Glacier Peak team from Snohomish.

What to look for: Glacier Peak (16-5, 7-2 league/Everett Herald) has a balanced offense, similar to what Mount Si was facing Tuesday against Auburn Mountainview. Leading this attack are the Miller brothers. Senior Jackson (19 goals/12 assists) and junior Shane (9G/12A) lead the offense for the Grizzlies. They, unlike Mountainview, have a quality third option as well; senior midfielder Brian Holguin (7G/12A) has also made his mark this season for GP. They also have a good goalie in junior Andrew Weakly, whose GAA (goals against average) is under one a game.

ROUND ONE: VARSITY WINS 4-0

DEFEATS  AUBURN MOUNTAINVIEW - SPSL Division 3A

Game Report:

By: MSHS Head Coach Darren Brown - 05.18.2010

A good win tonight. We met our goal tonight with a 4-0 victory. A lot of players contributed to tonight's success. I will start by saying that Sam Evans tonight was exceptional. He is a true leader in the sense that he was pivotal with his play not only physically but, mentally a breath of fresh air. Sam put his body on the line tonight and played through the contest. He played through a dead leg and that is just Sam. Very proud of his effort tonight. Dane as well was fluid throughout the contest......smooth and put himself in great position 80 minutes in......I could not have asked for anything more. Getting Johnny back was a big lift as he provided solid distribution and our shape was a big part of his soccer IQ which is appreciated. Sam J brought out his "A" game full of intensity, finishing, and hustle on both sides of the ball. Doug played nicely in the slot at both mid and up top. Dyson provided a boost that I know did not show up in the box score but, his creativity and pressure created us with numerous opps tonight and that is all I can ask from my attacking player even if he does not score. Very proud of Dy tonight....thought he played a great game. Chace had a very nice finish and was a spark this evening. Thought he played well and worked hard while on the pitch. Kody was electric in both the first and second half. The pace is what I appreciate. He really is a true striker in that he loves to go at you and has the speed and touch to do damage which showed tonight. Made a big difference in tonight's outcome. Ryan was just Ryan....came up big when we needed him but, also poised and never rattled. Three more to go on our path. Elite eight is here....now on to prepping for Glacier Peak. Lets get ready now. I am proud of you all tonight....tomorrow is a new day.

Mount Si boys soccer makes history; wins first ever state tournament game

By RHETT WORKMAN
Snoqualmie Valley Record Sports contributing Writer

Today, 4:53 AM · UPDATED

In the long history of the Mount Si boys' soccer program, no team has ever won a game at state. Until last night.

Through dominating play for much of the contest, the Wildcats posted a 4-0 win over the Auburn Mountainview Lions of the South Puget Sound League to clinch that historic first state tournament win. The victory sends them to a second round matchup Friday at Mount Si against the Glacier Peak Grizzlies from Snohomish. The Wesco 3A school pulled a 2-0 upset over a ranked North Kitsap squad to advance to this matchup Friday night.

A question that the Wildcats needed to answer off the first kick was whether rust would be a factor; tonight's game was the first in nearly two weeks. Mount Si answered that question quick, as they took control of the match early. It resulted in a goal in the 34th minute, as Sam Joselyn headed a shot which cleared the outstretched arms of AMV goalkeeper Isaac Ferrer and went into the net. (read article)

Varsity Game 16 Report:

By: MSHS Head Coach Darren Brown

We did it!  We reached one of our goals tonight- KingCO League title and home field advantage through the first two rounds of state.  Now it is on to preparing for state play.  The top 16 teams in the state will be good competition and we have to get ourselves ready over the next ten days for that.  The good news is we have lots of time to prepare and get ready for state competition over the next week and a half.  I am proud of the boys and the way they were composed over the last 30 minutes playing a man down.  As the physical side of the match became more intense, we dropped into a 4-4-1 and did an adequate job of keeping the pressure up tempo.  I thought Sam Joselyn really worked hard tonight and was a breath of fresh air in the midfield.  Dane and Sam worked out of the back well and Dy and Doug gave us two good finishes to put us up.  We did not allow Juanita to penetrate tonight as they settled for long balls which gave us time to get our shape playing with a man down.  Monday night, we can go to the KingCO district playoff game to watch the Mercer Island vs Juanita and Sammamish vs Bellevue contest.  At 6:45 the KingCO championship trophy will be presented along with the 1st and 2nd team nominations.  This is where the road to state begins.

One more to go....Juanita home...senior night and the one blemish game on our record.  A win Thursday night means home field advantage round one in the sweet sixteen state bracket.  Tonight we were a bit sluggish and played very flat the first 40.  We had a hard time getting into rhythm and our possession.  Ryan recorded his 9th shut out of the season....a new Mount Si record....big congrats to Ryan.  Sam Evans played a strong game all night and was rewarded with his 2nd goal of the season.  Sam is starting to heat up....watch out for Mr. Evans.  We have one day to train for our regular season finale, so its time to get ready.

The goal of the 2010 Mount Si boys soccer team, especially their seniors, was simple: Win the first-ever league title in school history for boys soccer, and make state. They had to fight through some adversity through the course of this season, and again in tonight's game against the Juanita Rebels, but timely goals and solid defense helped seal up a piece of Valley sports history. The opponent is Juanita, the only team Mount Si has lost to this season. Boys soccer | Wildcats hunt for first league title
May 5, 2010 - SnoValleyStar.com By Administrator
NEW — 4:05 p.m. May 5, 2010

The Wildcats have never won a league title in boys soccer, but the team will have a chance to change that when they play Juanita, Thursday May 6. Seniors Doug Silvius and Dyson Fowler are leading the offense in the hunt for a title, while goalkeeper Ryan Herman continues to anchor a strong defense. Mount Si moved closer to a title with a 2-0 victory over Sammamish April 30. Going into the game, the two were tied for second in the conference behind Mercer Island. Interlake and Juanita stand in between Mount Si and its first league title. If it wins the final two games of the regular season this week, it will clinch the conference title and the No. 1 seed from the SeaKing District to the state tournament. However, Juanita, which it plays May 6, beat the Wildcats 2-1 April 13. Mount Si played Interlake May 4 after press time. Mercer Island is currently in first place, but only has one game left in its schedule. It played Juanita May 4 after press time.

VARSITY GAME 14 - WIN vs Sammamish 2-0

Varsity Game 14 Report:

By: MSHS Head Coach Darren Brown - 05.01.10

The boys played a great 2nd half tonight.....came out and adjusted to our game play and executed very nicely.  Eric did a great job of controlling the tempo and our backline did an exceptional job all night long.  Hats off to Ben, Sam, Dane, and Johnny of keeping Sammamish at bay outside of the box and Ryan making a great save tonight.  Doug and Dyson got the job done period.  Doug really put that extra gear in to play the last 40 minutes and just played an exceptional 2nd half.  Dyson continues to put up numbers from his relentless hard work on and off the ball.  Very proud of the boys work put into this match tonight as it puts us in pole position for the remaining two matches.  Two to go and we can then celebrate our team goal going into playoff soccer.  Cody was a spark off the bench as well as Michael and Chace giving us good minutes.  Well done men.

Big Drama comes Friday.  Mercer Lost to Sammamish 2-1 tonight opening a spot for 1st place with a win Friday night against Sammamish.  This will be a battle in the making.  We need a big crowd behind us Friday at 730.  Good game tonight.....thought the players coming off the bench did well.  Matt Eichler got his feet wet and had a good showing.  Sam Evans breaks in his first header goal....just a matter of time!  Dyson had a couple goals and was one shy of another hat trick but, was pulled with 15 remaining with the game 4-0 and over.  Doug got a great goal and assist tonight as well.  Jonathan Cramer provided a big boost out of the back and was rewarded with an assist on a great ball.  Lets get ready for Friday now.

VARSITY GAME 12 - TIE vs Mercer Island 2-2

IN DOUBLE OVERTIME

Varsity Game 12 Report:

By: MSHS Head Coach Darren Brown - 04.23.10

Mercer Island controlled the tempo the first 40 minutes tonight but, the 2nd half and in OT was ours to win.  We came out flat tonight and allowed Mercer Island to get forward too often in the early going which gave them some opportunities.  The last 50 minutes- we played our game and created pressure which gave us more space in the midfield which was absent early.  I thought Eric had a strong 2nd half and contributed well with those 2 serviced balls to Sam J and Doug.  Good finishing in the box tonight....we are deadly in the box and up in the air.  It is only a matter of time where Evans buries one.  With one point tonight, we are still in the hunt for the #1 seed.  We need a Mercer Island loss or tie and to win our last four remaining matches for the seed to state.  We would have the head to head advantage against MI with a win and tie in this case.  The boys did a good job of fighting back tonight which was good to see".

Mount Si soccer playoff hopes damaged with tie against Islanders

By: Rhett Workman

Sno-Valley Sports - 04.25.10

Mount Si’s boys soccer team fought hard, but at the end of the day it was not enough and their playoff hopes took a big hit as a result.

The Wildcats rallied from a halftime deficit and another in the second half to grab a 2-2 tie with the league leading Mercer Island Islanders last Friday night. The tie left Mount Si five points back of the Islanders for first place in the league standings, so it does not appear now that the Wildcats will be able to clinch the league title and an automatic berth to the state 3A tournament.

Mount Si coach Darren Brown was a bit disappointed. "We fought back hard. They are a solid squad. I think we're a better team. I think we are more balanced and we have more of an attack than they do, but sometimes that's the way they fall,” Brown said. (

VARSITY GAME 11 - WIN - Defeat Bellevue 6-1

Varsity Game 11 Report:

By: MSHS Head Coach Darren Brown - 04.20.10

A great team effort tonight.  I am proud of the boys and the way they played.  Great shape and our runs were much better off the ball.  It was great to have Sam Joselyn back tonight...he created so many opportunities for us and his work ethic was top notch as usual...everywhere I looked tonight, Sam was there and it was appreciated.  Jonathan Cramer is getting better and better every time I watch him....makes good decisions, gets forward, and is playing really good soccer.....oh, and what a goal. WOW!  Dyson had quite the night...a hat trick and an assist to add.  He is going after that KingCo scoring leader mark and tonight certainly helped.  Thought Dysons runs were not only effective but, provided him with more scoring opportunities to where he is dangerous.  Great goals by Doug and Eric as well....thought that set piece that Eric hit was nasty.  Dane really stood out to me tonight as he had a very tough assignment in a new role filling in for Davis (stress fracture) and matching up with Race who is just a prolific scorer and one heck of a player.  Dane did his job exceptionally well and I am very proud of him and his effort.  Well done boys...now on to focusing on Mercer for Friday.  It is going to be a battle.

MOUNT SI WALLOPS BELLEVUE

By: Rhett Workman

Sno-Valley Sports - 04.20.10

Mount Si's boys soccer team, despite a pair of underwhelming efforts in their previous two games coming into tonight's game, which included a loss last Tuesday at Juanita, found themselves this week ranked #7 in the 3A Seattle Times boys soccer poll. Tonight, the Wildcats showed why they deserved the ranking, as they came out and made short work of the Bellevue Wolverines.

Dyson Fowler had a natural hat trick - three straight goals - to lead Mount Si to a 6-1 pasting of the Wolverines. Jonathan Cramer, Doug Silvius and Eric Baumgardner also added goals, and Sam Evans pitched in an assist to help the Wildcats take their frustrations out from the last two games.

Things started early in the fourth minute, with Cramer's goal, a laser beam which went in just underneath the crossbar past Bellevue goalie Alex Drewenskus. Then, in the 14th minute, Silvius was the proud recipient of a Wolverines turnover, which the senior promptly ripped back into the net for the 2-0 Mount Si lead.

The star goalkeeper for Mount Si’s boys soccer team, Ryan Herman, has been known thus far this season for his booming kicks, and his stellar play in net in picking up five shutouts going into last Friday night’s game against the Interlake Saints. After the Wildcats beat the Saints, however, Herman became known for something else: scoring a goal. (read article)

SnoValleySports commentary: Herman's big honor a great accomplishment, but what could this really mean, not just for him, but for Wildcats?

As we just mentioned for you here, we are first to break the news for you here tonight that ESPN has informed Mount Si's boys soccer program that their junior goalkeeper Ryan Herman has been nominated for the Gatorade High School Soccer Player of the Year award, and has also been listed by ESPN RISE magazine as the fifth-best college prospect among all high school boys' soccer goalies in the country. Mount Si’s 6-7 goalkeeper really covers the net

Junior Ryan Herman has already committed to a college, and many expect him to turn pro

For as long as 6-foot-7 Ryan Herman can remember, people have asked if he played basketball. Mount Si High School’s junior goalkeeper used to tell people he preferred soccer. But over the years, he heard the question so many times, he created a stock answer. “Now I just say, ‘Yeah,’ or they will keep bothering me,” Herman said with a laugh.

With quick feet, soft hands and impressive body control, Herman has developed into one of the top soccer prospects in the state. The more he accomplishes, the easier it is to explain why he focuses on protecting a net instead of trying to dunk a ball through one. “He’s the best keeper in the state,” Mount Si coach Darren Brown said. “Just watch him for five, 10 minutes and you’ll notice that he’s agile, he’s intelligent. He’s got a lot of intangibles to his game that’s already at a different level from a lot of kids his age.” (read article)

VARSITY GAME 9 - WIN 2-0

Varsity Game 9 Report:

By: MSHS Head Coach Darren Brown - 04.10.10

The result was a "W" but, we need to play more direct and perform better on both sides of the ball.  I thought we played really at about 50% of what we are capable of which was the negative.  It is spring break and I know that we are out of our routine but, we should have really hit our 80-20 mark on possession tonight.  Instead of letting the game come to us...we ended up rushing a lot of opportunities tonight.  Game pace is what we need to capitalize on going forward and keeping our shape for 80 minutes.  There was way too much pressure on our back third tonight that was not necessary.  Cody did a good job off the bench getting forward and looking for space....a spark plug what I am looking for.  Davis and Sam played their positions well with good decision making and vision out of the back.  Ryan provided us with some cushion on his 60 yard finish.

#1 Ryan Herman - #7 Sam Evans - #19 Davis Karaica

VARSITY GAME 8 - TIE 2-2 - OVERTIME

Varsity Game 8 Report:

By: MSHS Head Coach Darren Brown - 04.07.10

"The tale of two halves tonight...we play like we did in the 2nd half and the outcome would have been different.  We were not locked in the first 40 minutes and Sammamish was ready to play us.  Mental prep is so key and when you are at the top of the division...we have a target that people want.  We have to use this as an example for down the road.  I was proud of the boys for fighting back which shows that we will not accept defeat....same as Bothell in game 1.  Michael Blackmon provided us a lift tonight with his determination and hustle off the ball which created one of the goals.  We have to finish stronger in our build up and work on the timing of our runs which will result in more opps down the road.  We got a point out of tonight but, need to win our remaining games on the schedule going forward to avoid the grinder".

Goals: Michael Blackmon  58th minute - assist from Ryan Herman

Goals: Michael Blackmon  60th minute - assist from Eric Baumgardner

VARSITY GAME 7 - ANOTHER BIG WIN

MSHS VARSITY Defeats LIBERTY 4-0

FRIDAY NIGHT

Varsity Game 7 Report:

By: MSHS Head Coach Darren Brown - 04.03.10

"A good crowd tonight and support for the boys which was good to see.  I thought we played stale tonight....we got the job done but, we did not hit our objective and got off of our game plan.  We have a big match on Tuesday at Sammamish which is a good squad.  We have to play better than we did tonight.  Sammamish is a much bigger squad with some quality athletes, so the pace will be quicker and the physical style of play will be present.  Kody has had back to back games now with goals to end the night.  Dyson Fowler held possession very well up top tonight, I was proud of his work ethic in the attacking third as well as his attacking the frame with pace.  Big game from Dyson both in the stat sheet as well as the difference maker of the match".

VARSITY GAME 6 - BIG WIN AT MERCER ISLAND

MSHS Defeats #6 State Ranked Mercer Island 2-0

Varsity Game 6 Report:

By: MSHS Head Coach Darren Brown - 03.31.10

"For 78 minutes....it was a hard fought battle between both sides.  We had lapses tonight of solid possession and then we would get caught into Mercer's flooding that would pull us a bit but, this squad adjusts way better in transition than teams over the past few seasons.  Ryan was great again in the back and leads very well.  Our backline was solid and played well.....distribution could be better at times but, we will iron out some of those kinks.  Davis and Sam were outstanding again in the middle.....they both read the game very well....Sam is a machine in the air and Davis is such a strong 1v1 defender that I would put him against anyone in the opposition.  Eric was putting on a clinic tonight and was causing MI fits with his ball control and pace.  Doug's goal was ridiculous......just pure textbook and to top it off......Kody Clearman attacking the box....taking his player on and finishing strong to end the night.  Good job men!  1 game at a time....10 more to go in league....lets focus on Liberty now for Friday at home".

Mount Si's 6-7 junior goalkeeper really covers the net
Everyone wonders if 16-year-old Ryan Herman plays basketball — until they watch one of the state's best goalkeepers make another eye-popping save.

Ryan Herman, a 6-foot-7 junior, covers the goal like nobody else. His Mount Si High School coach calls him "the best keeper in the state."

Mount Si holds off late game surge by Eastlake

Doug Silvius vs Eastlake 2010

It was a one-sided game for the Eastlake Wolves, but the Mount Si Wildcats almost came away with a win after a chance goal March 17 at Eastlake High School. In Eastlake’s final pre-season match of the season, the young team made Mount Si work hard to keep the ball out of the goal. The hard work paid off for most of the game. Mount Si took a 1-0 first-half lead, but Eastlake equalized it in the second half to secure the 1-1 draw.

“It was a tough game. We got a lot of chances,” said Sawyer Preston, Eastlake junior midfielder. “We’ve gotta be more efficient in the final third of the field.”

The Wildcats’ defensive efforts worked for two-thirds of the game. It had a 1-0 lead at halftime after sophomore defender Jonathan Cramer scored an opportunistic goal in the 30th minute. It came off a corner kick that was not properly cleared. It bounced around the scrum near the goal and Cramer hammered it past Eastlake goalie Devin DeAlteris. (more)

Mount Si soccer unloads on EC behind unlikely source

Mount Si's boys soccer team took a rare detour from playing KingCo opponents last night, hosting an Eastside Catholic team which, at least in the first half, held their own against the vaunted Wildcat offense, but it was a different story in the second half, thanks largely to a junior more known for his success in other sports.

Michael Blackmon, a name familiar to Mount Si fans as he is one of the top runners on the Wildcat boys cross country team, had a natural hat trick - three straight goals - as Mount Si scored six in the second half and thrashed EC, of the Metro League, 7-0. And it was short work for Blackmon in getting his "trick" - the three goals came within a span of about five minutes late in the contest.

Dyson Fowler scored a pair himself for the Wildcats; he opened the scoring by ripping one in from a sharp angle past EC sophomore goalie Garrett De Cillia in the 34th minute. This came after Mount Si had three sparkling chances to score earlier in the half; one was stopped just short of the goal line by an EC defender, another was off the crossbar and a third, an Eric Baumgardner header off a free kick from goalie Ryan Herman, sailed over the net but got the Wildcat fans in a buzz. VARSITY GAME 5

MSHS Defeated Bellevue 2-0 Friday Night

Varsity Game 5 Report:

By: MSHS Head Coach Darren Brown

Good start to the regular season.  I thought the depth of our roster was demonstrated tonight from the loss of Willie and Shawn.  This is the deepest roster I have had since 2004 (which was a great team with Yosef, Gibson, and company).  I think our play was up and down tonight and not very consistent but, I thought the way we responded in the 2nd half to the pressure was the turning point of the night.  Our backline did a great job and hats off to Sam, Davis, Ben, and Zac.  I think our distribution could have been better but, they never got rattled which to me was very positive.  We are quick, strong, and intelligent in the back which I like my backline to be.  Eric and Doug played well tonight and Kyle's game is getting better and better every time I watch him.  His goal was pure filthy in the opening 30 seconds.  Dyson and Dane provided a lot of spark in the attacking third and I appreciated the hustle they provide on both sides of the ball.  Dyson is so fast, it really amazes me at times.  Some of the balls he gets to is just fun to watch.   1 down......11 to go in league.  1 game at a time.

MSHS Routes Eastside Catholic 7-0 Tuesday Night

JV also wins big 5-0

Varsity Game 4 Report:

By: MSHS Head Coach Darren Brown

It took us awhile to get going tonight but, the boys responded well in the 2nd half and controlled possession.  We had a lot of scoring opportunities and took advantage of them after the 40 minute mark.  We are much stronger and quicker than our teams in the past.  Good showing from all tonight and contribution from every player.  Michael recorded a hat trick in 5 minutes which has to be a record to date.   Kyle was strong on both sides of the ball and played a great match.  On to Friday at Bellevue for the league opener.

VARSITY GAME 3 - TIES Eastlake 1-1

 Game 3 Report:

By: MSHS Head Coach Darren Brown

To start, Eastlake is loaded with top caliber talent around the state.  They have four academy players and are very deep (as usual).  I thought we matched up well in the first half regarding intensity and applying pressure up top and in the midfield.  The second half was another story.  We got very relaxed sitting on a 1-0 lead and our shape was lost as well our up tempo style of play.  We lost a lost a lot of midfield possession and our transition was non-existent.  We are still in the pre-season but, we two things are clear from tonight.  #1) our distribution has to be better.  #2) we have to counter not only more quicker but, be more effective from 40-40.  The good news out of this is that we recognized where we are vulnerable which will be corrected and also were thin due to two injuries that occurred during the match and from the week.  I think our bench has made strong strides of improvement which I am really proud of.  We still need more consistent play from the starting core over the course of the match.  I love playing a top caliber 4A school early such at Eastlake to set the bar of excellence to what is expected.....now we just need to execute.  The ceiling is high for our potential as I am happy with our depth if we are healthy.  We need to hold our shape during stress and change the tempo where it works to our advantage. This will come but, needs some tweaking.  Overall, a 1 win 0 loss 2 tie standing going into our last pre-season match.  We need to come out strong against Eastside Catholic for some momentum going into league play vs Bellevue on our opener next Friday.  Johnny Cramer came up with his first high school goal of his career and Ryan had another stellar match including two big key saves in the 2nd half.

#1 Ryan Herman and #3 Jonathan Cramer

Their 2009 campaign was tough, but with the experience that the Mount Si boys soccer team brings this season, many are expecting big things. The rebooted Wildcats might make their first state appearance in school history.

Coach Darren Brown is back for his sixth season at the helm, after a 7-6-2 season last year. He returns a senior-laden group anchored by a junior goalie who has already verbally committed to a Division I college and could be the best player this program has ever produced. (more here)

VARSITY GAME 2 - MSHS STADIUM HOME OPENER

MSHS VARSITY DEFEATS LAKE WASHINGTON HS 2-0

Game TWO Report:

By: MSHS Head Coach Darren Brown

"The boys played much better tonight than game 1.  We controlled possession for most of the night and really created problems for Lake Washington and their shape.  Again like game 1, I thought we got multiple strong performances from every player.  I thought Jonathan Cramer and Nate Popp brought good energy off the bench and played solid minutes for us on both sides of the ball.  Our backline is strong....Willie, Sam, Davis, Ben, and Zac provided good service all night long and I was pleased with their play again.  Cody Clearman provides us with more punch up front with Dane and Dyson and the three of them not only have wheels but, complement each other well.  When we need some size, we have the option to push Doug up for a possession forward and create opps off of him which is a plus.  Lets keep this winning streak going!  Well done tonight boys!"

Mount Si soccer gets win behind strong night in more ways than one from Herman.

Ryan Herman dazzled the fans last Saturday at Bothell with his booming kicks, and once again last night he did the same. Last night, though, his kicks proved to be useful, as the Wildcats took care of Lake Washington in the Mount Si home opener.

The junior goalkeeper got a shutout, and added an assist, to help the Wildcats beat the Kings 2-0. Dane Aldrich and Doug Silvius scored the goals for Mount Si. "This is a very good team that we have and it's very special. We're going to have a lot of fun this year," said a pleased Mount Si coach Darren Brown.

Herman's assist came on the Aldrich goal, in the eighth minute.

MSHS VARSITY TIES BOTHELL 1-1

in 2010 Season Opening Game

Game ONE Report:

By: MSHS Head Coach Darren Brown

"The boys fought back to tie the match with 3 minutes left to play thanks to a well placed ball from Kyle to Dyson. I think playing from behind in our first game is a good test of playing with adversity and I am proud of how the boys responded. Overall, our distribution could have been better but, I was happy with how some of the boys stepped up with four players being gone. This shows the depth we have this year which we have not had over the last three seasons. This comes with experience and how hard the preparation of the off-season comes up into play. I thought our backline was strong today. We have to work on our defensive corners and our marking which will get sorted out. Offensively, our runs were off at times which we were behind the ball or poor service which was costly in transition. Ryan provides us with solid leadership out of the back as well as controlling the tempo of the match. His distribution is not only a weapon but, puts the opposition on their heals and out of there shape. Bothell was the perfect test for us for the 1st game of the season. I think we are 2-3 weeks ahead of schedule comparing to our last few seasons. I could point out strong play from a number of the boys today but, I thought Ryan's presence was the "x" factor along with Dyson's clutch finish. Two games next week.....Monday at home vs LW and Wednesday at Eastlake. Game time is 6pm Wednesday because of Test week, so we will meet in the locker room at 430. Remember, it is picture day prior to the match as well. Picture attire will be red jerseys, black shorts, black socks.
